Chat Room Slang and Abbreviations
If you are new to the world of text messaging, Internet Relay Chat, chat rooms in general, mailing lists, or online forums, you may find yourself getting lost when people use abbreviations for common phrases that you have never heard of.
The quickest way to find out what many of these abbreviations stand for is probably to just look for them with your favorite search engine. All you have to do is enter the abbreviation! Try it for yourself by entering just one word in the search box, either “IMNSHO”, “AFAIK”, “LOL”, “ROFL”, or “RTFM”, for example. Read the rest of this entry »

True Confessions: Installing IPKs
About a year ago, I made the mistake of using the GUI for installing an ipk meant for another distro, an arm.ipk that was not necessarily for the Zaurus, and it totally messed up my Zaurus. So, I am overly cautious about ipks now.
I do try to make backups before installation, but I also have had some backups that yielded “bad tar header” messages when I tried to view them, and/or which the GUI could not use without failing. Read the rest of this entry »
