The Myth About BCC Email

Once upon a time, people could respect others privacy when sending email to a number of recipients, by putting the addresses in a “BCC” field, which meant “blind courtesy copy,” or “blind carbon copy.” That was supposed to mean that the server or email client would remove the addresses of the “BCC” recipients before sending the email on to everyone in the “TO:”, “CC:”, and “BCC:” fields.

However, despite common belief, when we send email to someone as a “BCC” email, their address may be sent to all recipients, and is not necessarily privatized.

More gmail woes

I’ve been getting “Connection closed by remote server” messages at gmail the past day or two. It’s happened to me in the past, trying to log in using pop mail, and I’ve been able to log in later without changing any settings in my email client.

But it also happened today in Opera, and I decided to google the message. Hey, guys, if you get this message, I don’t think it’s your browser, your email client, or your cellphone. It’s gotta be either gmail itself, or a problem with the interface between your ISP and google, IMNSHO. Read the rest of this entry »

Sending denied

It look like at least 10 people found my blog yesterday, and at least 3 people so far today, when they entered “5.7.0 mail sending denied” or various versions of that, into a search.

So, if that’s how you got here, know that you are not alone. When it happened to me about 11 days ago (see this post), it was a gmail thing, and cleared up of it’s own accord in several hours.

Struggling with email at yahoo and gmail

Even if you have your email client(s) or browser bookmarks for webmail all set up and working perfectly, the big guys seem to love messing up our complacency by upgrading.

Yesterday’s aggravation was my inability to get gmail to send email from my primary address via SMTP mail. The error message I got from tkcMail was:

Error while waiting for confirmation we can send the message data.
Server said: 550 5.7.0 Mail Sending denied
